{"id":124,"date":"2007-08-01T14:43:21","date_gmt":"2007-08-01T20:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ministryofgrace.org\/blog\/index.php\/2007\/08\/01\/galatians-116-illuminated-direction\/"},"modified":"2007-08-01T14:43:21","modified_gmt":"2007-08-01T20:43:21","slug":"galatians-116-illuminated-direction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ministryofgrace.org\/test\/galatians-116-illuminated-direction\/","title":{"rendered":"Galatians 1:16 &#8211; Illuminated Direction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/Banner-MOG-60.gif\" alt=\"Ministry of Grace Church\" height=\"58\" width=\"472\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: maroon\">Galatians 1:16<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"color: navy\">to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 12pt\"><strong><u><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Truth to Learn<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">God has a plan for each person in the body of Christ and He will reveal that plan to us, if we are willing to listen to Him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 3pt\"><strong><u><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Behind the Words<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The word translated \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">confer<\/span>\u201d is <em><span style=\"color: maroon\">prosanatith\u0113mi<\/span><\/em>, which is made up of <span style=\"color: maroon\">pros<\/span>, meaning \u201cbeside\u201d or \u201cin addition to\u201d and <em><span style=\"color: maroon\">anatith\u0113mi<\/span><\/em>, meaning \u201cto lay-up\u201d (as thoughts are laid-up between people.) Hence, this word means \u201cto have a conversation or an exchange of ideas with someone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 3pt; page-break-after: avoid\"><strong><u><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Meaning Explained<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In order to understand this verse we have to include the first part of the previous verse, which applies to what is being said here. Taking out the parenthetical expression, \u201cwho separated me from my mother\u2019s womb and called me through His grace\u201d we get, \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">But when it pleased God to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,\u201d<\/span><strong><sup><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; color: navy\"> <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\"><span>There is some confusion about the expression \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">to reveal His Son in me<\/span>.\u201d The words translated \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">in me<\/span>\u201d are the Greek words <em><span style=\"color: maroon\">en emoi<\/span><\/em> which can literally be translated as \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">in me.<\/span>\u201d But these same two words are used elsewhere in the scriptures to mean \u201c<span style=\"color: navy\">to me<em>.<\/em><\/span>\u201d An example is <strong><span style=\"color: maroon\">1 Corinthians 14:11<\/span><\/strong> which says:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0.25in 0.0001pt\"><span style=\"color: navy\">Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks <span>will be<\/span> a foreigner <strong>to me<\/strong>.<\/span><span style=\"color: navy\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\"><span>Therefore, it is possible that Paul\u2019s meaning is: God the Father, at His own good pleasure, revealed His Son to Paul as an act of grace, not as a result of his seeking Him (for clearly Paul was not seeking God at the time).<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\"><span>As more evidence that this is what Paul intended, look at:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0.25in 0.0001pt\"><span style=\"color: navy\">For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to <span>give<\/span> the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. <\/span>(<strong><span style=\"color: maroon\">2 Corinthians 4:6<\/span><\/strong>)<span><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\"><span>It is God\u2019s shining in our hearts that gives us the knowledge and faith to believe. And Paul, immediately upon having had Christ revealed to him, while still in the presence of the Lord on the road to Damascus, asked the Lord what he should do.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0.25in 0.0001pt\"><span style=\"color: navy\">So I said, \u201cWhat shall I do, Lord?\u201d And the Lord said to me,<\/span> <span style=\"color: red\">\u201cArise and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all things which are appointed for you to do.\u201d<\/span> (<strong><span style=\"color: maroon\">Acts 22:10<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\">Apparently it was while he was in Damascus and later in Arabia that Paul learned the difference between the legalistic, tradition based religion that he had been previously pursuing and true Christianity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 6pt\">Notice that Paul did not know what to do after he was saved so he asked God for guidance and upon receiving it, he followed it as zealously as he had persecuted the faith previously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 3pt\"><strong><u><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Application <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Do you know what God wants you to do?
