Amen.<\/strong><\/span><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Truth to Learn<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We have the genuine Word of God.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Behind the Words<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Grace<\/span>\u201d is translated from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>charis<\/em><\/span>. This is the noun form of the verb <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>chair\u014d<\/em><\/span>, meaning \u201cto be full of cheer\u201d or \u201cto rejoice.\u201d The noun form, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>charis<\/em><\/span>, means \u201cjoy, pleasure, or gratification as a result of an undeserved kindness granted.\u201d In other words, it refers to \u201can undeserved or unmerited favor done without expectation of anything done in return.\u201d It is sometimes described as \u201cunmerited favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Lord<\/span>\u201d is from the Greek noun <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>kurios<\/em><\/span>, which is derived from the noun <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>kuron<\/em><\/span>, meaning \u201cmight\u201d or \u201cpower.\u201d Thus, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>kurios<\/em> <\/span>refers to the one possessing might or power; that is, it refers to \u201ca master or owner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Jesus<\/span>\u201d is transliterated (spelling a word of one language with the letters of another language) from the Greek <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>I\u0113sous<\/em><\/span>, which is in turn transliterated from the Hebrew <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Y\u0113sh\u016b\u2019a<\/em><\/span>, or Joshua, meaning \u201cJehovah is help\u201d or \u201cJehovah saves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Christ<\/span>\u201d is the transliteration of the Greek word <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>christos<\/em><\/span>, which is derived from the verb <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>chri\u014d<\/em><\/span>, meaning \u201cto anoint.\u201d Therefore, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>christos<\/em> <\/span>means \u201canointed one.\u201d This is the equivalent of the Hebrew word <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>M\u0101sh\u012bach<\/em><\/span>, or Messiah.<\/p>\n<p>The word \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">amen<\/span>\u201d is transliterated from the Greek word <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>am\u0113n<\/em><\/span>, which in turn is transliterated from the Hebrew <span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u2018<em>\u0101m\u0113n<\/em><\/span>. It literally means \u201cto be firm, steady, or trustworthy.\u201d The Greek word is sometimes translated as \u201cverily\u201d or \u201ctruly.\u201d Because we almost always end a prayer with amen, we tend to think of it as meaning \u201cthe end\u201d but this is not the proper meaning of the word. At the end of a prayer, it is more appropriately equated to \u201cit is truth\u201d or \u201cit is so.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Meaning Explained<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Today\u2019s verse is almost exactly the same as the second half of verse twenty, except that the word \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">all<\/span>\u201d has been inserted. Some of the major Greek manuscripts do not include this verse, so it is omitted in some translations. However, it is included in this translation so let\u2019s look at it briefly.<\/p>\n<p>According to his second letter to the Thessalonians, this is an expression that Paul uses to mark the genuineness of his letter:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is a sign in every epistle; so I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>be<\/em> <\/span>with you all. Amen.<\/span> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>2Thssalonians 3:17-18<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul alludes to a forged letter from him (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>2Thessalonians 2:2<\/strong><\/span>), so he may have used this valediction to assure them that it was truly from him. Thus, we see this expression in various forms in <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>1Corinthians 16:23<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>2Corinthians 8:9<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Galatians 6:18<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Philippians 4:23<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>1Thessalonians 5:28<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>2Thessalonians 3:18<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>1Timothy 1:14<\/strong><\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Philemon 1:25<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>As to why it is included in both verses twenty and twenty-four we can only speculate. Perhaps the first was written by his penman and this one was written by Paul himself.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Application<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We are so privileged to have God\u2019s truth presented to us in a single book, a book that we know to be genuine. We should treat it as precious, honor it as sacred, and follow it as God\u2019s Holy Word.
