{"id":2824,"date":"2011-10-10T20:11:54","date_gmt":"2011-10-11T03:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ministryofgrace.com\/blog\/?p=2824"},"modified":"2011-10-10T20:11:54","modified_gmt":"2011-10-11T03:11:54","slug":"ephesians-32-administrator-of-grace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ministryofgrace.org\/test\/ephesians-32-administrator-of-grace\/","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 3:2 &#8211; Administrator of Grace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Ministrty of Grace\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ministryofgrace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Banner-MOG-701.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"80\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Ephesians 3:2 \u00a0&#8211; Administrator of Grace<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you,<\/strong><\/span><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Truth to Learn<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>All Christians are commissioned to preach the Gospel.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Behind the Words<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The word \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">if<\/span>\u201d is translated from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>ei<\/em><\/span>. This is a conditional particle which introduces a conditional clause. In New Testament Greek (Koin\u0113 Greek) there are four types of conditional clauses, although only three of them appear in the Bible. The first class condition assumes the \u201cif\u201d clause to be true. The second class condition assumes the \u201cif\u201d clause to be false and the third class condition makes no assumption. In today\u2019s verse we see a first class condition, so Paul assumes that his readers have heard of the dispensation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Indeed<\/span>\u201d is from <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>ge<\/em><\/span>, which is a particle of emphasis or qualification. It can be variously translated as \u201cbesides, doubtless, indeed, at least, or yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The word translated \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">dispensation<\/span>\u201d is <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>oikonomia<\/em><\/span>, which is made up of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>oikos<\/em><\/span>, meaning \u201chouse\u201d and a form of <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>nem\u014d<\/em><\/span>, meaning \u201cto distribute or apportion.\u201d <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>Oikonomia<\/em><\/span> can refer to the position of administrator, the work done by an administrator, or of the process of administration. In today\u2019s verse it refers to the \u201cadministration\u201d or \u201cstewardship\u201d of the grace of God.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Meaning Explained<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Paul, like every believer in Jesus Christ, has been the recipient of God\u2019s grace as he described it in the previous chapter:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; <em>it is<\/em> the gift of God,<\/span> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Ephesians 2:8<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>However, that\u2019s not what he is specifically referring to in today\u2019s verse. Here he is talking about \u201c<span style=\"color: #000080;\">the dispensation of the grace of God<\/span>\u201d or the administration of the grace of God. God chose the Apostle Paul to be the administrator of His grace for the Gentiles. What he means by that is that God has entrusted him with the message of salvation by grace, through faith, and it is his responsibility to deliver it to the Gentiles. In Acts chapter twenty-six Paul described to King Agrippa how he received this responsibility directly from the Lord, who said:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Jewish<\/em><\/span> people, as well as <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>from<\/em><\/span> the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,<\/span> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Acts 26:16, 17<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>In fact, he told the believers in Corinth that he now has no choice but to preach the Gospel message:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!<\/span> (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>1 Corinthians 9:16<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>Paul recognized his responsibility to administer the grace of God by preaching the Good News to people throughout the known world, and he performed that task until the day he died.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Application<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We, too, have been given a commission to preach the Gospel message. Are you carrying out that commission?
