1 Peter 1:9<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n receiving the end of your faith\u2014the salvation of<\/span> your<\/span><\/em> souls<\/span>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n Truth to Learn<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Faith in the blood of Jesus Christ as payment for your sins guarantees the salvation of your soul.<\/p>\n Behind the Words<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The word \u201creceiving<\/span>\u201d is translated from a form of komidz\u014d<\/span><\/em>, which means \u201cto bring\u201d or \u201cto receive.\u201d It is expressed here in the middle voice, which in Greek means an action that is done by the subject of the verb to itself. Hence, here it means \u201creceiving to yourself \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n The Greek word translated \u201cend<\/span>\u201d is telos<\/span><\/em>, which properly means \u201cthe point aimed at\u201d and by implication means the \u201cconclusion\u201d or \u201cultimate result.\u201d<\/p>\n Meaning Explained<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n This verse ties back to the last part of verse 7, \u201cthe appearing of Jesus Christ.\u201d If you look at the key verbs that follow this phrase you find, \u201chaving not seen,\u201d \u201cbelieving,\u201d and \u201creceiving.\u201d If we consider these together we can see what Peter is saying regarding the coming of Jesus Christ. Even though we have not seen Him, we believe in Him, and will, as the final result of that faith, obtain salvation. Here Peter tells us that the ultimate result of our faith is the salvation of our souls.<\/p>\n In a positional sense, we have already received salvation, that is, in God\u2019s record book we are already marked as righteous (saved). But, that salvation isn\u2019t fully consummated until He comes back to take us home. At the rapture of the church, the salvation of our souls will be completed when we receive our immortal bodies:<\/p>\n Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed \u2013 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal<\/span> must<\/span><\/em> put on immortality. <\/span>(1Corinthians 15:51-54a<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n This concludes Peter\u2019s first lesson for us: we rejoice in the trials which refine and purify our faith because it is that faith which guarantees our salvation which will be received at the coming of Jesus.<\/p>\n What Peter is not<\/strong> saying in this passage is that we have to \u201ckeep our faith and not lose it\u201d because he already made it abundantly clear that we were chosen to salvation by God Himself and the preponderance of scriptural evidence makes it very clear that He will not lose us. For example, Jesus said:<\/p>\n My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.<\/span> And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.<\/span> My Father, who has given <\/span>them<\/span><\/em> to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch <\/span>them<\/span><\/em> out of My Father’s hand.<\/span> I and <\/span>My<\/span><\/em> Father are one.”<\/span> (John 10:27<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n Application<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n If your church has taught you that you can lose your salvation through willful sin, a cardinal sin, or the unpardonable sin, let me ease your mind.
