{"id":4371,"date":"2013-05-01T03:30:08","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T10:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ministryofgrace.org\/blog\/?p=4371"},"modified":"2013-04-30T23:40:47","modified_gmt":"2013-05-01T06:40:47","slug":"1-corinthians-130-all-from-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ministryofgrace.org\/test\/1-corinthians-130-all-from-god\/","title":{"rendered":"1 Corinthians 1:30 &#8211; All From God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong>But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God&mdash;and righteousness and sanctification and redemption&mdash;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Truth to Learn<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Our salvation is all from God.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Behind the Words<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The word translated &ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">of<\/span>&rdquo; is <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>ek<\/em><\/span>, which means &ldquo;out of&rdquo; or &ldquo;from.&rdquo; It is an indication of the source of something.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">Became<\/span>&rdquo; is from the Greek verb <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>ginomai<\/em><\/span>, which means &ldquo;to begin to be.&rdquo; It is expressed in the aorist tense, passive voice, indicating that it was done to Him at a point in time in the past.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>Dikaiosun\u0113<\/em> <\/span>is the word translated &ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">righteousness<\/span>.&rdquo; It is based on the noun <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>dikaios<\/em><\/span>, which means &ldquo;just&rdquo; or &ldquo;righteous.&rdquo; Righteousness is a description of our standing before God.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">Sanctification<\/span>&rdquo; is from the noun <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>hagiasmos<\/em><\/span>, from the verb <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>hagiadz\u014d<\/em><\/span>, which means &ldquo;to set apart from common use as something without blemish to be used in the service of God.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The word &ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">redemption<\/span>&rdquo; is translated from <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>apolutr\u014dsis<\/em><\/span>. This is made up of <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>apo<\/em><\/span>, meaning &ldquo;from&rdquo; or &ldquo;away from&rdquo; and <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>lutro\u014d<\/em><\/span>, which means &ldquo;to bring a ransom for the purpose of freeing someone from captivity.&rdquo; Thus, <span style=\"color:#800000;\"><em>apolutr\u014dsis<\/em> <\/span>means &ldquo;set free as a result of a ransom having been fully paid.&rdquo; We are set free from sin and its consequences because the ransom for our freedom has been fully paid by the blood of Christ.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Meaning Explained<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Throughout the past six verses Paul has been talking about God&rsquo;s wisdom in his choosing and calling us foolish, weak, sin-sick nobodies out of the world and into His family. He has masterfully and effectively contrasted the wisdom of the world (which in reality is utter foolishness) with the foolishness of God (which in reality is supreme wisdom). Here he makes a dramatic statement that is often missed. Paul says that God is the source of our position &ldquo;<span style=\"color:#000080;\">in Christ Jesus.<\/span>&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>If you carefully study the New Testament teachings, you will find that all aspects of our salvation have their source in God. Here is a list of some of the things that we could not do, but that God has already done for us:<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>willed<\/strong> (determined) to make us His (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Ephesians 1:5<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>purposed<\/strong> to predestine us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Ephesians 1:11<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>predestined<\/strong> us to adoption as sons (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Ephesians 1:5<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>chose<\/strong> us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>2 Thessalonians 2:13<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>prepared<\/strong> us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Romans 9:23<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>drew<\/strong> us to Himself (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>John 6:44<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>granted<\/strong> us to come to Christ (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>John 6:65<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>saved<\/strong> us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Titus 3:5<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>sanctified<\/strong> us completely (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>1 Thessalonians 5:23<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>appointed<\/strong> us to eternal life (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Acts 13:48<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>delivered<\/strong> us from the power of darkness (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Colossians 1:13<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>made us alive<\/strong> (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Ephesians 2:5<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>poured out His Spirit<\/strong> on us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Titus 3:6<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>brought us forth<\/strong> (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>James 1:18<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>justified<\/strong> and <strong>glorified<\/strong> us (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>Romans 8:30<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>called<\/strong> us into His kingdom (<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong>1 Thessalonians 2:12<\/strong><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Application<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seeing all that God has done for us, how can we do anything but be humbled and eternally grateful for all His work in our salvation? And given all that He has already done, how could we ever think that there is anything that we could do to nullify what God has done?
