1 Peter 1:20<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you<\/span><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n Truth to Learn<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Before the creation of the heavens and the earth, God determined that Christ would die for your sins and mine.<\/p>\n Behind the Words<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The Greek word translated \u201cforeordained<\/span>\u201d is proegnosmenou<\/span><\/em>,<\/span> which is a compound of pro<\/span><\/em>, meaning \u201cbefore\u201d and a form of ginosk\u014d<\/span><\/em>, meaning \u201cto know.\u201d This word means \u201cto know beforehand\u201d or \u201cto determine beforehand.\u201d<\/p>\n The expression \u201cbefore the foundation of the world<\/span>\u201d comes from the Greek, pro katabol\u0113s kosmou<\/span><\/em>. The word pro<\/span><\/em>, as we just learned means \u201cbefore,\u201d katabol\u0113s<\/span><\/em> literally means \u201cto throw down\u201d which refers to \u201claying a foundation,\u201d and kosmou<\/span><\/em> is our familiar friend \u201ccosmos\u201d or \u201cworld system. \u201c<\/p>\n Meaning Explained<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s interesting to look at all three verses in the Bible that contain the expression pro katabol\u0113s kosmou<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n Father,<\/span> I<\/span> will<\/span> that<\/span> they also,<\/span> whom<\/span> you<\/span> have<\/span> given<\/span> me,<\/span> be<\/span> with<\/span> me<\/span> where<\/span> I<\/span> am;<\/span> \u2026<\/span> for<\/span> you<\/span> loved<\/span> me<\/span> before<\/span> the<\/span> foundation<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> world. <\/span>(John 17:24<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:<\/span> (Ephesians 1:4<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n who in fact was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was made known in these last times for you<\/span> (1 Peter 1:20<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n These verses tell us three things that happened at what is referred to as \u201cthe council of God,\u201d which occurred before time began: 1) the three persons of the Godhead had love for one another, 2) we were chosen for salvation and given by the Father to the Son, and 3) the sacrificial death of the Lamb of God (Jesus, the Son) was determined (ordained). God didn\u2019t just create things and then \u201clet it happen.\u201d He has a plan for the ages and everything is being worked out exactly as He planned.<\/p>\n The last part of today\u2019s verse tells us that, although the prophets didn\u2019t understand the messages they were delivering because it was not yet revealed, the reality and significance of the death of Jesus Christ has been made known in these last days (the time in God\u2019s plan in which you and I are living.)<\/p>\n Application<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n God has revealed the plan of salvation to us today in a way and to a degree never before experienced by mankind. How can we ignore that which He has put so much effort into revealing to us. There are more copies of the Holy Scriptures available in more languages and more translations than at any other time since the creation of the world! There is more preaching, there are more radio messages, and there are more television broadcasts about the Bible than ever before!<\/p>\n And yet, 2 Timothy 4:3<\/span><\/strong> says:<\/p>\n For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting<\/span> to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n What are you doing with God\u2019s Word today?<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In God\u2019s service, for His glory,<\/strong><\/p>\n Copyright \u00a9 2008 Will Krause.
